What WE OFFER

An enriching day that starts with a school tour followed by classroom observation of best practices. Participants will then be treated to an inspiring workshop that outlines the philosophy of a human-centered approach to education at Riverside. The day ends with a whole group reflection session that will reveal the power of collective learning.

RLC offers 3 / 5 / 10 days Touchstone Programs as short term immersion programs. In your days here you will observe best practices of Riverside school through classroom observations, consultations, interactive workshops, visits and social experiences. Your day will always end with a reflection session to review, reflect and refine your own practice.

    Student engagement occurs when students see relevance in what they are learning. Relevance is most clearly established when skills and concepts taught in the classroom connect to the ‘real world’. This is done through the use of authentic materials and experiences.

    At the end of this workshop, teachers will develop an understanding of the types of materials that can be incorporated into sessions and how to design experiences to maximize student learning.

  • Phonics
    Phonics

    Phonics unlocks the mysteries of reading and decoding words for children. Phonics develops the association between the sounds of spoken English with letters and teaches children to blend the sounds together to produce approximate pronunciations of unknown words.

    At the workshop, teachers will gain a basic understanding of Phonics and be able to implement it in their classroom. They will also develop the skills necessary to create learning aids to cater to the needs of their students.

  • Hands-on Math
    Hands-on Math

    In order to make math more enjoyable and interesting to children, Math programs must be hands-on, filled with play, and exploration. At the workshop, participants will engage in methods and activities using motivating and engaging concrete materials. Choose between Pre-Math / Primary Math or Secondary Math Programs.

    Developing Scientific Temperament

    Scientific Temperament allows teachers to nurture curiosity and foster the spirit of questioning and inquiry in young minds. Through exploration and being mindful of the scientific process, students will be able to make sense of seemingly random phenomenon that occurs in nature.

    Participants at the workshop, will get clarity about the difference between science and scientific thinking. In addition, teachers will be guided to design hands-on and exploratory sessions and connect these learning experiences with real life.

    A student’s involvement with art happens at a very visceral level and each session is an experience in expression, exploration and reflection about one’s own self awareness, of others and the world around them.
